This Youth Committee will tackle issues that impact youth and the community. We will, through collaboration, enhance the image of youth and actively engage in the positive development of our society.

Who is the Youth Advisory Committee?

The Committee consists of 17 members made up of students grades 9-12 who are residents of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas. Representation will be as follows: at least two members from each of the five City Council Districts, and seven at large. The At-Large members can come from any district. The initial purpose of this committee will be to assist and advise the City of Corpus Christi City Council on city youth issues. The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department serves as liaison for this committee.

Who can be in the Youth Advisory Committee?

Each member must reside in Corpus Christi and be enrolled in a public, private, parochial, or home school, located in one of the following Texas Counties: Nueces, San Patricio, Kleberg, or Aransas. Students must be at least in the 9th grade.

Selection is by submission of application to the Corpus Christi City Secretary's office, review and recommendation by the majority of the Youth Committee, and appointed by the Corpus Christi City Council.

What is required if I'm selected to become a member of the Youth Advisory Committee?

Each member shall serve a two-year term and is eligible for reappointment. Each member's term automatically expires three months after high school graduation.

Monthly meetings are held Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall. Attendance is mandatory. No more than three absences a year are allowed. Any member so appointed will be removed if the member violates the attendance policy for City boards, commissions, and committees of the City of Corpus Christi.

Any vacancy occurring during a term of membership shall be filled for the unexpired term.

What does the Youth Advisory Committee do?

  • Assist and advise the City Council on city youth issues.
  • Conduct surveys to determine the concerns and interests of the youth of Corpus Christi.
  • Encourage youth leadership and responsibility through volunteerism and community involvement.
  • Create opportunities for public discussion of youth issues through meetings, workshops and conferences.
  • Look for ways to promote understanding, respect and community involvement among youth groups of all cultures and backgrounds.
  • Assist in planning, recommending and implementing youth activities.
